Like many people who have been in Real estate for a hand full of years, I have many stories that I could share about deals that made me both frustrated and those that made me very happy. Right off the bat though, I can think of one transaction in particular that moved me a great deal on a personal level.
In addition to being in real estate herself, my wife has coached a masters swim team at our local YMCA for ten years or more now. Every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 5:30 am you can catch her on the pool deck at Jeep Rogers pushing her team for more. Being there that early in the morning usually means that the team has the pool area to themselves with the exception of the lifeguards on duty at any given time. My wife of course always gets to know the lifeguards which are usually college aged folks working for a little extra spending money. A couple of these lifeguards in particular who were engaged ended up doing a lot of baby sitting for my wife and I when we had our first child and they were great. Our Son loved them coming over to hang out with him and they seemed to really enjoy playing with him as well.
At one point the builder my wife works with came up with the idea that the on-site agents should have assistants and the first person my wife thought of was the young lady that baby sat for us. She was hired on to be my wife's assistant shortly there after and was sent to real estate school herself. After about a year or so, she was promoted and received her own community and became full blown agent. She did and still does extremely well.
After she had been working for a while in her own community and her and her fiance had tied the knot, I got a call out of the blue from her one day saying that they were ready to buy their first home. They wanted to know if I would represent them in the process and I was trilled that they wanted me to. I'm not going to lie, the fact that she was a well trained Realtor with access to the MLS and had already started her search made the process very easy from our side. When they found a home they wanted, the fact that it was the home of another Realtor that I knew also made things very easy from the other side as well. It was one of the most flawless deals ever given that everyone involved was a actually a Realtor and knew what they were doing.
As if a flawless deal was not nearly enough to be happy about, what really made me so happy in this deal was to see two young people that had been a part of my family's life become first time homeowners. There was just something about the entire situation that reminded me of when my wife and I bought our first home and the experience was awesome.
Something about the deal really made me feel quite grown up. Did I mention that they were expecting their first child at the time? Everything had come full circle and the kids that used to watch my child were now adults with a child of their very own on the way. I had now surpassed grown. I had made way a step closer to old, and to be honest, it felt pretty great.
