JL's Columbia SC Real Estate Blog: It's Only Life

It's Only Life

When my wife and I were planning our wedding, I set up a small website that people could find out information about the event. At the top of the website, we wanted to put a phrase that somehow connected to us. One day while my wife was listening to an Indigo Girls album and I was passing through, I heard the perfect phrase. " the greatest thing you ever did for, was to help me take my life less seriously, it's only life after all".

This became the phrase that we placed at the top of our homepage. It seemed to make perfect since to us. Before we got together, we were both ultra serious and ultra determined to take on the world and win. In some ways we are still determined to take on the world, but now we have learned a lot about simply letting go. Sometimes that's the most important thing you can do, just let go. So, remember not to take this whole life thing too seriously, you'll never make it out alive anyway.

A lot less stressful too... sometimes I stay fired up for no reason until my stomach hurts! Less seriously, yeah, that's the ticket!

So true... letting go of the little things means everything.  Somedays are easier than others.

Richard- Take a breath man, life is a lot more fun when you're relaxed.

Kim- People who believe that holding on is the hard part, have never really had to let go. Thanks for the comment.

We have to learn to take life in stride.  I'm the worst offender.  I should slow down because there are times when I find life too stressful especially this real estate business.

This is a great statement - I always tell people to have fun with it - Life is too short to stress over the little things.  Good luck

Back before i got into realestate(and actually had an income) I was a manager in  job i hated and one of my employees i really liked who would always see me tense used to say "You're to blessed to be stressed" I'll never forget that one.

I find the older I get the less seriously I take myself.  Even the high stress things flow better when I laugh a little.  It's actually kind of fun to laugh at yourself.  Try It!

Too funny I was just talking to a friend of mine earlier today about how as we get older it takes alot more to get you fired up. Maybe it just comes with age.

Rosalinda- Real estate is sometimes a stressful business, but we can't let it get the best of us.

Vincent- Having fun is important, life is too short.

Hugh- There is no need to waste time at a job you hate. As for your employee's phrase, it's an interesting one.

William- I have the luxury of laughing at myself all the time. I may as well, because if I don't someone else will.

Robert- Wisdom comes with age, the ability to shrug off the things that do not really matter that much comes with wisdom.

JL: You know me by now...I have to say something like...I have learned the hard lesson in life that I can't make it through this life on my own. I have learned to cast my cares on the Lord, for He loves me and He watches over me to guide me and protect me and bring me through the hard times in life.

I have tried it the other way, and I am a better man to realize that the One who created this world, knows how to bring me through it will His help and guidance.

Thanks for sharing your heart with us JL.

I agree, JL.  In the greater scheme of things, don't sweat the small stuff - and remember, its all small stuff.

(or as a younger friend of mine told me... don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things. )

Of course they are all younger these days...
