JL's Columbia SC Real Estate Blog: Angry phone calls. Why they make me happy.

Angry phone calls. Why they make me happy.

The truth of the matter is that over the course of time I have had more than one person claim that I am a bit insensitive. I simply don't seem to mind saying things that I souldn't, and don't really care whether or not people like me. Recently my wife, whose also an agent, suggested that I take some flyers to apartment complexes for one of my listings. This was something I had not done before, but I figured why not. So, I took said flyers to a complex and put them out on car windshields. Within 45 minutes I had two phone calls, and both turned out well. In-fact, one is buying the house.

So, this of-course made me want to put out more flyers at more apartments. So, I did, and I return one morning I received a phone call at 7:45am from a lady screaming at the top of lungs about how " we don't appreciate all your flyers" all over the apartments. So, when I asked her if while she was on the phone would she be interested in buying a house, she hung up on me. It wasn't until a few minutes later that it dawned on me e she was likely some one who worked at the apartments, and not the head of the home renters association.

So, that being said, I realized that angry phone call seemed to make me want to put out even more flyers. In fact, am listening to the copy machine now. Have a great day guys, I know I will.

Some good ideas JL. I'm curious what the flyers said and how they looked. Would you share that with us?

Your funny.  Be sure to drive her nuts with kindness. But be careful she doesn't call the police. You may be considered tresspassing.

How many car alarms did you set off?   This is a good idea.

Sometimes causing a "disturbance" can work in our favor. Sometimes not. I find flyers and postcards to be very annoying, on my door or windshield.

Be careful that you are not violating the law by posting ads where prohibited or unwelcome.

Good Luck & Do Have A Great Day!

As long as you are complying with the law and apartment complex rules, go for it.  Although, I can say I seldom look at the stuff on my windshield.  I grab it and ball it up right away...  But, obviously someone does.

I like the idea. I've had much success mailing to apartment complexes. Continue to go for it.

You likely violated some rule but most times one infraction would not result in any complaints.  So you grabbed a couple of buyers, good for you!!  The angry caller likely was a person from the complex, and you are taking away there business.  They are in business to rent, not encourage home buying.  Until somebody officially tells you to stop it, continue.
