It's rare that you will find me not listening to music. The fact of the matter is that as long as I can remember I have loved all kinds. I even play guitar myself, mostly oldies like Bob Dylan, but I also dabble in a little more modern tunes.
Few of us can say that we haven't been touched by the gift of music in one way or another in our lives. Music can move us in so many ways and evoke thoughts and emotions like few other forms of art.
Almost everyone has a favorite radio station, and if are like me, that station is local. Mine is WXRY right here in downtown Columbia, SC. They play a mix of music, but mostly Alternative and that appeals to me.

Now Congress has been nice enough to propose a radio performance tax that would tax radio stations for playing music. This proposed tax would be direct attack on the finances of local radio stations my favorite and I'm not sure how the little guys would manage to stay afloat should this Bill pass Congress.
What do I suggest, leave the music alone and let it be free my friends. For years radio stations have played music for free much to the delight of listeners and music fans from all walks of life. And now I am threatened with static from my speakers as a result of the bankruptcy of those that bestow these musical miracles upon us.
To find out more to get involved, Please visit www.noperformancetax.org and find out how you can tell Congress to leave my music alone.

JL...
If they start taxing you and me for running our mouths, we are in BIG trouble!
Richard- That would break the bank in no time, but you and I together could erase the national debt if that were the case.
lol @ Richard... yeah...I'd be in big trouble too!
Sally- I think a lot of us would be, but I fear giving Congress on more absurd ideas.
Is this their attempt to reclaim what's been stolen by music pirating? Does any money go back to the artists? Or is it just another attempt to put our money into their pockets.
I read about this last summer. I hope that the bill and whoever wrote it are sitting somewhere in a corner wasting away. This, along with subscription radio, the "new television" and everything else will make me take up whistling.
JL: Having worked in radio, I think this stinks! What would ultimately happen is it would have a trickle down effect on the advertisers. The local businesses would be charged more or, more likely, stations would run more ads and play less music. Either way, it stinks.
Hmm.. I hadnt heard of this before. I'll go back and read the article you attached.
A bit of solace JL

Washington has lost it's direction and the spending in out of control, we need to clean house.
Good luck and success.

The New Jersey Broadcasters Association has been running ads on this for a while. They update the ads when another Representative gets on board in opposition!
I had head about this last year and I keep hoping that this gets squashed because it is just so ridiculous. Next they will want to tax the air we breathe.
JL, I hope this one is languishing in the not-ever bin and never sees the light of day!
JL, it is mind boggling, really. Why don't we tax congress for driving us crazy, or an aggrivation tax. I think they should be personally taxed when they come up with a really stupid idea. Yeah, a stupid congress person tax.
I'm sure it looked good on paper when they were brainstorming for another way to get a little more ?
Certainly enjoy the music Cynthia sent you! Playing it again..... Have a great day!
My lifetime goal is to own my own radio station one day so you know I REALLY OPPOSE this!
THIS TAX STINKS CONGRESS!!! IT REALLY STINKS...SO GET RID OF IT because YES I SAID IT...IT STINKS!!
Thanks,
Tom Davis
