New Agent or Old Bad Habbits?

I see many blogs here on AR that are directed towards complaining about new agents and all the troubles they bring to the table in their representing of a client. Well, I can tell you from personal experience in dealing with several seasoned agents, that the new agents are not the only problem. Sometimes, it's the older agents that have simply forgotten the rules or have not kept current with the changing of the times.

In South Carolina, if you have been a licensed agent for 25 years and are 65 or older, you are exempt from mandatory continuing education. I believe that no one should be exempt from this. In my opinion some of these agents, not all mind you, are the ones who need it the most.

I'm aware that dealing with a new less experienced agent can sometimes be a pain, but I can most definitely assure you that dealing with an older agent whose no longer current on the law can be as big a pain also. At least the new agent has inexperience to blame it on. Realtors in the business for more than 25 years have no one to blame but themselves for being too lazy to keep up with changes taking place in the industry.

This is not written to excuse new agents, nor is it written to unite the senior agents in a battle against me. It is simply written to express the issue from a different prospective. You don't have to agree and I don't have to care if you don't. But the fact of the matter is, that new and old agents can be a big issue in any deal. Sometimes it's as simple as drawing a bad agent from the deck regardless of their specific amount of experience in the field.
